Want to improve your oral health? Here are some tips!

It's important to keep your mouth healthy and clean, not just for aesthetic reasons, but also for your overall health. Poor oral hygiene can lead to gum disease, which has been linked to other health problems such as heart disease and stroke.

Here are 10 tips for keeping your mouth healthy:
  1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. You may want to brush more frequently in between meals. This will help you keep bacteria at bay.
  2. Floss daily to remove plaque and bacteria from between your teeth. Flossing should be done prior to brushing to dislodge debris.
  3. Eat a balanced diet and limit sugary snacks, yes, this includes sugary drinks. A highly sugary diet can cause decay.
  4. Quit smoking or using other tobacco products, tobacco impacts gum health, stains your teeth and may even cause oral cancer.
  5. Swish with water after eating acidic foods to protect your tooth enamel. Drinking between meals or with meals is also a great way to reduce the amount of acidity in your mouth.
  6. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles to avoid damaging your gums. You should also avoid brushing too hard.
  7. Replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed.
  8. See your dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings.
  9. Treat oral health problems promptly to prevent them from becoming worse.
  10. If you have gum disease, follow your dentist's recommendations for treatment. Whilst gum disease is treatable, the earlier to treat gum disease the less damage will be done.

If you don't have a regular dentist, you can find one by searching online ‘dentist near me ’ or asking friends and family for recommendations. Taking care of your oral hygiene is an important part of maintaining your overall health and well-being.
