What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a protective cap that is permanently fixed to cover the entire visible surface of a tooth. The crown is meticulously colour matched to your adjacent teeth to ensure a natural look is achieved, blending seamlessly into your smile.

Your dental crown with Dental Concepts will be created using 3D technology to ensure the new tooth does not disrupt your bite and fits perfectly. The dental crown procedure is relatively straightforward and typically requires approximately two to three appointments for preparation, fabrication, and final fitting.

What are Dental Crowns Used for?

Crowns are highly versatile and serve both restorative and cosmetic purposes, offering total protection for your tooth. They are used for:

  • Protecting Damaged Teeth: Crowns protect a tooth damaged by decay, trauma, or cracks from further breakdown.
  • Supporting Large Fillings: Used to strengthen a tooth with a large filling, preventing further breakage.
  • Anchoring Bridges: Essential for holding a dental bridge in place to replace missing teeth.
  • Covering Implants: Crowns are fitted onto a dental implant to provide a stable, natural-looking tooth replacement.
  • Improving Appearance: Used to improve the appearance of discoloured, misshapen, or heavily broken down teeth.

The Dental Crown Procedure

Preparation

The tooth is gently shaped, and precise digital impressions are taken to ensure the perfect fit.

Fabrication

A custom-made crown is crafted in our laboratory using 3D technology, colour-matched to your teeth.

Temporary Fitting

A temporary crown is fitted to protect the tooth while your permanent crown is being created.

Final Cementation

The custom-made crown is permanently cemented into place, completing the restoration.
